Choosing the right name for your Bichon Frise is
important. Your pet’s name will hopefully last its
lifetime. You’ll be calling it virtually dozens of
times a day. You’ll be calling your pets name to
greet you, and to praise and to reprimand him/her.
So choose a name that you enjoy saying and that you
both can live with.
If you’re in the process of choosing a name for your
dog keep these things in mind:
- Keep it simple. Choose a name that your Bichon Frise
can easily recognise. A name with just one or two
syllables works best.
- Avoid names that can be confused easily with typical
commands. Here’s an example, "Flo" could probably be
easily mistaken for "no!"
- When adding a new pet to your house hold avoid names
that sound too much alike to avoid confusion.
You can always look at lists of names and choose
from them. For a more personal and creative approach
you might want to try this:
Jot down some ideas, brainstorm, free associate, I’m
talking stream of consciousness here, you can always
edit later.
Next...(still jotting...)
Consider your dogs:
- Birthday
- Breed
- Sex,
- Physical appearance, color, markings
- Personality traits, Is your dog shy, playful,
affectionate or excitable? Remember Sleepy and
- Sneezy from Snow White?
- Idiosyncrasies,
- Likes and dislikes, favorite treats
Look over your list and circle the standouts. Then
put it aside, forget about it, do something else.
Hey I know go take __________(dog’s name) for a
walk! Later on look over your notes with fresh eyes.
After awhile a name may jump out at you or come to
you later. If you’re still stumped check out some
names on our list or other sites for pet or even
baby names too.
