Bichon Frise: Oops! Correcting Those Accidents
Remember your Bichon Frise does not think like you
or me. Your dog wants to please you. Your job is to
understand your pet and make them understand what it
is you want from them.
Living in the moment...
Be here now...be here now...this should be your
mantra. Your dog lives in the moment much more than
you or I. So in order to correct or address your
dog’s behavior you need to ‘catch them in the act”.
Even five minutes after the fact is too late.
For instance it is important to discipline
your dog for messing on the floor while they’re in
the act not afterwards. They simply don’t associate
the pile of poop with the act and with your
disapproval. When you do catch your dog in the act
of relieving himself inside convey your displeasure
by using a firm tone of voice and saying” No not
inside”. Next take your dog outside immediately to
relieve him/herself and always heap tons of praise
on your dog when they do use the right place.
* Be consistent. Help your Bichon understand what is
expected of him. Remember the old adage “you can
catch more flies with honey than vinegar? The same
holds true for your pet. Be generous with your
praise and encouragement.
